High Intensity Interval Training: Workouts To Get Ripped

When considering workouts to get ripped, one of the most popular today is high intensity interval training (HIIT). There is some exciting clinical evidence showing that it creates more fat loss than the workout that had previously been suggested most for fat loss. In addition, it takes far less time to perform. The rub is that it's extremely tough to do.

It used to be that medium intensity endurance exercises were recommended as the ultimate method to lose fat. This made a lot of sense because when your heart-rate is around 60 percent of its maximum, the body tends to burn the highest amount of fat. After about 20 minutes of such exercise, you should be burning a very high percentage of body-fat; near 85 percent.

Strangely, when comparing medium intensity stamina training with high intensity interval training, the interval training causes more fat reduction despite requiring less time and energy expenditure.

Interval training has been used for a long time to improve athletic performance. In 1994, Tremblay published the results of the study comparing high intensity interval training with the more traditional endurance training. His study, publish in Metabolism 1994 Jul;43 (7):814-8, reported that the high intensity interval training group lost about three times more fat than the traditional endurance training group.

Due to the fact that the high intensity training took less time to perform, and because fewer calories were burned performing the routines, Tremblay evaluated how much fat was lost for every calorie burned during exercise. The high intensity interval training group lost nine times more fat for each calorie burned during exercise.
